The Marie Cole Memorial Primary School is nestled at the foot of the Santa Cruz Mountain approximately three (3) miles south of the town of Santa Cruz within the farming community of Burnt Ground. The school which was established in 1968 is built on approximately three (3) acres of land that was donated to the Jamaican Government by the Cole family for the construction of a school in memory of their mother Mrs Maria Cole a former educator. The school was constructed by the Canadian Government.

The school was built to accommodate approximately one hundred and seventy (170) students. Through the efforts of Principal Delmas Smith and other caring persons, more spaces were added to bring comfort to the growing number of students. The school, over recent years, has undergone several changes and improvement. The school was repaired and flush toilet facilities were put in place by the Ministry of Education. The zinc roofing was redone.

The main building has eight (8) classes from grade 2 to 5. The staff consists of thirteen (12) classroom teachers a guidance counsellor and the principal. The board of the school is fully constituted and there is an active PTA body.

There has always been a mutual relationship between the school and the community it serves. Functions and events hosted by the school are always well supported. The school occasionally receives assistance in cash and stationary to assist with its programmes. 

Students are exposed to extracurricular activities such as 4H club, scouting, science and environmental club, bible club, culture club, football and cricket and farming.
